Although Carl Sandburg describes the fog as a cat, William Gropper's drawing seems to depict the fog if if were to be described with human features. Also because the drawing is drawn in shades of gray, black, and white, it looks similar to fog itself. The blurriness of the picture also makes it seem similar to fog. The old man drawn in the picture seems to be looking over an unknown area that we cannot see, just like the cat in the poem. We can guess that because the old man does not seem to be comfortably situated he will move on soon, just as the fog in the poem with lift.
